In 1988 I read a review of The Stars We Are in Spin Magazine. Among other complimentary things, the reviewer stated: "Marc Almond wants to be the last Edith Piaf impersonator in hell" That is probably one of the coolest descriptions of Marc Almond ever. (I never forgot it and, in fact, got a tattoo of a sparrow on my throat recently - sort of a double homage)
Also, I saw him perform at the Fenix in Seattle in 1999 on the second night he was booked there. I don't mean to sound smarmy, but that night reminded me, no, informed me how powerful music and song can be. I had no idea how deeply I had, oh, what's the word, internalized those songs over the years.
Even walking down the street last night I suprised myself by remembering all the words to Love and Little White Lies.
I'm happy to see Marc Almond fans here and even more happy to see they're in Portland!
