this is a message to the earlier post about the NSEVShow.

'The video for sex dwarf is in the vaults. never to see the light of day' paraphrasing Marc's comment about the whole trial and tribulation about that video in his book Tainted Life. HOWEVER. I went to London to see Soft Cell perform at Ocean in March of 2001 and Sex Dwarf was one of the encores. How happy you can imagine I was when I realized that they were showing the video on a screen behind them during the song. Luckily I got to see them perform all three of those fabulous nights. I got to ignore their performance during the last show and just watch the video in complete awe. Yes Dave Ball with a chainsaw cutting up sides of beef, Marc wearing a leather jock rolling on the ground and a dwarf and a woman doing various positionings. Everyone chasing everyone around. it was quite tawdry and tame compared to oh I don't know getting to see Christina Aguelara's coo in the video with her in the boxing ring looking strung out.
alas.
Good times good times.
Then I met marc and he signed my arm which I proceeded to have tattooed the next day.
there is my story about Sex Dwarf.

Wow.....that's an awesome story. Do you have a pic of your tattoo that you can share???? If so, please upload it to this tribe.

    Thanks!

OK Michael you're my new friend but now I must kill you in a jealous rage.

I've only ever seen Marc once, at the Fenix for the Open All night tour. I was sooooo excited for SC in Seattle, and then they cancelled. *sigh.*

I can't find a pic of the tat that is obvious right now but I will get one up at some point soon. However, Travers can attest for it since he saw it last night.

I also had Dave Ball sign my chest but alas I was wearing a skin tight rubber shirt which caused the ink to smudge so badly there was no way to really recover it enough to tattoo permanently.

oh well. Travers saw that pic though!

Wow! I'm a big fan, but I don't think I would actualy have his autograph tatooed on me.

        That's real dedication!

well Normally my personal opinion about name tattooes is to NOT GET THEM. situations change.

BUT having been a SC/Marc junkie since '85 I think that it was necessary to do the tat. I look at it will always remember the show, London, and all the nefarious things I did while I was there. The tattoo is simply a bit of memorabilia- 'or I have never been there, I have never had you' so to speak.

            That's cool.

Back when I saw Marc in concert in '89, I bought a concert program to remember it by.

We all have our unique ways of remembering things.

Agreed on name tattoos - but I think that moment will always be special to you, so your exception is right on.

I'm against cover ups (except when a tat is really causing a problem in social interactions) - tattoos are a map of your history. Even if someday you like Marc's music less, the fact that you had that moment with one of your heros is real and special - it's not just like randomly putting some band's name on your body. I don't see you regreting that ever...

exactly. I have the symbol for the sisters of mercy tattooed on my shoulder; the star with the head in it. and it just doesn't mean nearly as much to me as the autograph. I even look at it now and think 'that was a waste of $50 oh well. I don't regret ever getting it- I still really like the symbol. Pity the Sisters of Mercy couldn't last as long as the tattoo.

I suppose the Sisters of Mercy will live on as long as your shoulder does.

I'm not bashing tattoos. I don't have any myself. I have a tough enough time trying to decide what shirt to wear each day. I could never choose something that would be on my skin the rest of my life.

I should mention that I lost my '89 concert program in a fire about 6 years ago. I think I still have the ticket stub around here someplace.

Now if I had gotten a tattoo instead of a program, would I have been destroyed in the fire instead? Interesting thing to ponder.

Yeah, I think you have to get past the "What if I live to regret it?" mentality with tats - I just look at it is, some of mine are not things I would get today, but they stand as reminders of where I was in different times of my life, and I like them for that reason.

I feel the same way. When 15, I forged a copy of my birth certificate to get a Bauhaus tattoo on my shoulder. Twenty years later, I don't prize it nearly as much as the sparrow on my neck (Marc and Edith Piaf nod), but I'll certainly never regret it.

              Hi Mark,

Oddly we meet in the strangest of places too. Apparently!

I hope you survived and made it home from Inferno. Gently rolling through session C right now. Always a lot to process after the experience. Tony is just this side of flipping out however.

I will chat with you soon!

              Cheers,
              Michael

Hey I've been off tribe for a while, but yes, I can attest to Michael's Marc autograph-tat! It's actually very nice, snuggled in among his other work.

And yes yes, I saw the Dave Ball chest-autograph picture, too!

And, yes yes yes: Michael is a very nice guy and definitely on the foxy side.

Was the cure's cover of foxy lady as good as soft cell's hednrix medley? ;-)
