It's been a little quiet around here lately. So I thought I'd post something to get the group posting again.
I just recently bought a copy of MARC & THE MAMBAS- UNTITLED on cd. I bought the album ( remember vinyl ? ) when it came out and remember how in love I was with this recording. His version of Big Louise in my mind far surpasses the original recorded by Scott Walker. Speaking of Mr. Walker.. I know he's a huge influence on Marcs work. I really hear it on a lot of the Mambas recordings as well as some of Marcs later stuff.
Any comments on this album?

Re: Untitled
Sat, August 27, 2005 - 2:17 AMI love Untitled!
Big Louise, Caroline Says, Untitled are all gorgeous. And it doesn't have quite the same excesses as Torment and Toreros - I love even the long dub mix of Twilights & Lowlifes... -

LOL! Very true. Although I do love Torment and Toreros as well.
But I'll save my opinions about that disc for separate post on T&T. ;)
Back to the subject at hand. I have been listening to ( the song )
Untitled a lot lately. It just brings back such great memories for
me. Empty Eyes always reminded me of Soft Cell ( a' la Down In
The Subway). Untitled will always be a fave of mine. -

Sun, August 28, 2005 - 1:58 AMOh yeah T&T RAWKS massively - no trashing intended...
But there's a certain naive sweetness unique to Untitled...
The title track (and the b-side, Your Aura) have such a wonderful Matt Johnson bleeding heart vibe
And I'm sorry, but I love anything with Cindy Ecstasy!!
Don't you think Empty Eyes has kind of an early electro vibe to it? -

I agree whole heartedly! I think that's a lot of what makes the feel & sound of the album so amazing! The arrangment of the song Angels is totally Matt in my mind.

LOL for sure!
She was supposed to do something solo. Did she ever do that?
>>Don't you think Empty Eyes has kind of an early electro vibe to it?<<
I do...I wonder why someone hasn't remade it or cited it as an influence?
I played it at a party once and some guest thought it was brand new!
I'm very sad that they aren't releasing the Mambas live dvd. I would've loved to have seen some of these songs performed live. I don't think the Mambas ever performed in the US? So it would be hot to at least see something from that period on dvd.
